한국외대 통번역대학원에서 석·박사학위를 취득하였다. 현재 한국외대 영어대학 EICC학과 교수로 학생들과 통번역을 공부하고 있다. 역서로는 『번역학입문: 이론과 적용(1판)』(한국외대 출판부, 2006)(대표 역자: 정연일), 『번역사와 번역학-소통의 시도』(한국외대 출판부, 2009)(대표 역자: 정연일)가 있다. 한국외대 강의상(2010년, 2016년, 2019년), 풀브라이트 교수 장학 프로그램 지원(2017년)을 받았다.
