편지 모음 The Letters/329

많은 고아들이 고아원에 머물러 있다가 캐나다, 미국, 프랑스, 스웨덴 등으로 입양되어 나갔다. 그 중에는 양부모를 잘 만나 사랑을 받고 바르게 자라는 경우도 있지만, 애정결핍과 문화차이로 잘못 크는 경우도 많았다. 그렇게 해외로 입양간 아이들이 성인이 된 후에 한국을 방문하여 애타게 부모를 찾을 때, 나는 어린시절 내 또래의 일 같아서 함께 눈물을 흘린다.

형님이 신문에 나온 서독 광부 모집 광고를 보여주었다. 눈이 번쩍 뜨였다. 그래, 서독에 가서 일을 하고 돈을 벌자! 그 돈으로 누님의 병원비를 보내주자! 하늘이 무너져도 솟아날 구멍이 있다더니 갑자기 하늘에서 내게 구원의 손길을 건네는 기분이 들었다.
