기업론

미국 자본주의 사회, 경제제도, 문화, 고등교육의 문제들을 근본적으로 비판한 경제학자·사회학자·심리학자 베블런은 1884년 예일 대학교에 논문 《인과응보론의 윤리적 근거들(Ethical Grounds of a Doctrine of Retribution)》을 제출하여 박사학위를 취득했고, 시카고 대학교 조교수, 스탠퍼드 대학교 교수, 미주리 주립대학교 교수를 역임했으며, 《기업론(The Theory of Business Enterprise)》(1904), 《독일제국과 산업혁명(Imperial Germany and Industrial Revolution)》(1915), 《평화의 본성과 지속기간 연구(An Inquiry into the Nature of Peace and the Terms of its Perpetuation)》(1917), 《미국의 고등교육(The Higher Learning in America)》(1918), 논문집 《현대 문명에서 과학이 차지하는 위상(The Place of Science in Modern Civilization)》(1919), 《기득권과 산업기술의 현황(The Vested Interests and the State of Industrial Arts)》(1919; 《기득권과 보통남자(The Vested Interests and the Common Man)》), 《기술자들과 가격제도(The Engineers and the Price System)》(1921), 《부재자토지사유권 제도와 현대의 기업(Absentee Ownership and Business Enterprise in Recent Times)》(1923), 유고집 《우리의 변동하는 질서를 고찰한 에세이집(Essays in Our Changing Order》(1934) 같은 논저들을 집필했고, 1929년 8월에 캘리포니아주 자치도시 팔로알토(Palo Alto) 근교에서 영면했다.
