스탠퍼드 대학(Stanford University)에서 수학교육 및 학습을 연구하고 있다. 30년간 캘리포니아 공립학교에서 아이들을 가르쳤으며, 실리콘밸리 수학협의회 수석 교사 등 수학교육 관련 다양한 활동을 하고 있다. 공저로 《Connecting Mathematical Ideas(Heinemann, 2005)》가 있다.
