Ironically, when we stop coveting so much, we can gain a different perspective and find the solution to our problem. Thus, amidst the obstacles, we can realize the Truth and experience a major turning point in our lives. In spite of such significant hindrances as six years of harsh asceticism and the rebellion of Devadatta, one of his disciples, against him, the Buddha was able to create and maintain a stable Sangha.
Life is much like a hurdle race. If you jump over the hurdles, you win, but if you trip over them and fall, you lose. Thus, if you have an important goal in life, you should try your hardest to overcome the obstacles and achieve your purpose. There will always be complications in everything you do. Once you triumph over them, however, you realize they were nothing at all. For example, when you try to quit smoking, it is extremely hard, but once you quit, you wonder why it seemed so difficult in the first place.
Thus, obstacles are only obstacles when you cannot overcome them. If you prevail over obstacles a few times, your confidence grows significantly, and you gain strength to cope with any problems.
