NSDS가 COVER ALL Vol. 07 ‘Flexibility’를 위해 제안하는 컬러는 기존의 정형화된 방법론에서 과감하게 벗어나 새로운 환경, 변화에 대한 적응 그리고 다양한 적응과 생존에 필요한 유연한 적응력을 보장하기 위해 중성적이면서도 각각의 색조가 뚜렷이 강조되는 색조들을 제안한다.
특히 인쇄에서 디지털, 미디어 중심으로 콘텐츠 기획과 표현의 매체가 중심을 이동하면서 원색의 일차원적 감성에서 벗어나 감성적인 동시에 디지털 미디어에서 새로운 매력을 표현할 수 있는 중의적이며 가벼움과 무거움 그리고 색조의 개성이 뚜렷한 색채들로 구성되었다.
R, G, B 각각의 영역에 집중되기보다는 서로 영향을 미쳐 미묘하게 변화하는 색채들에 주목하였다. 따라서 원색들보다는 중성적이며 동시에 White나 Black 또는 Gray의 영향을 어느 정도 받아 어떤 면에서는 중성화되었거나 어떤 면에서는 톤이 다운되어 차분해진 느낌이 강조된 듯하다.
하지만 가끔씩 튀어나오는 Acid한 색감 그리고 가볍게 휘날리는 듯한 형광색들이 적절하게 혼합되면서 새로운 변화에 적극적으로 대응하는 것을 게을리하지 않았다.
전체적으로 톤은 너무 어둡거나 무겁지 않고, 뉴트럴 계열이 아주 미세하게 변화하면서 넓게 제안된 것도 이번 ‘Flexibility’를 표현하기 위해 전략적으로 선택되었다.

The colors suggested by NSDS for COVER ALL Vol.07 “Flexibility” are neutral and clearly emphasize individual colors to ensure the flexible adaptability required to adjust and survive new environments and changes and that boldly escape the traditional formulaic methodology. These are colors with distinct personalities that are equivocal, simultaneously light and heavy, and capable of expressing and being sensitive to the new appeals of digital media by breaking away from the one-dimensional sensitivity of primary colors as the medium of content planning and expression shifts from print to digital and media.
Rather than focusing on RGB colors individually, we focused on subtle changes by influencing each other. Thus, these colors seemingly emphasize calmness as they are more neutral than primary colors while also becoming neutral from the influence of white, black, or gray or toned down in some ways. But we did not neglect to actively respond to new changes, appropriately blending acidic colors that sometimes stand out and fluorescent colors that flutter lightly.
Extensively proposed colors were chosen strategically to express “Flexibility” as very minutely altered neutral tones with overall tones being not too dark or dull.

기존의 익숙함 그리고 예상과 전망을 점점 빗나가고 있는 현실. 확산일로의 가치관, 기술 그리고 삶의 방식 간의 충돌. 기술과 패러다임의 전환기에 완전무결함보다 보완과 개선을 통해 점진적 완성과 진화를 추구하는 디지털식 변화 과정이 확산되고 있다. 팬데믹에서부터 경제, 기후 그리고 정치, 사회적 불안정과 변화 속에서 생존하기 위한 최선의 전략을 찾아야 한다. 승자의 역사에서 무수히 발견할 수 있는 공통의 요인. 생각과 태도의 “유연함”과 “확장성”이야말로 희망과 분쟁이 함께 존재하는 현실의 한계를 뛰어넘기 위해 요구된다.

Reality shifts away from existing familiarities as well as prospects and anticipation through the clashes of expanding values, technologies, and lifestyles.The progression of digital transformation seeks gradual completion and evolution through supplementation and improvement rather than picture-perfectness amidst technological advancements and paradigm shifts. We must find the best strategies to overcome uncertainties and adapt to post-pandemic changes in the economy, climate, politics, and society.Let's look at the common factors that dictate history's winners:“flexibility” and “expandability” of the mind and attitude are needed to overcome the limitations of reality where hope and conflict coexist.

최근 우리가 접하고 있는 일련의 불안정 그리고 새로운 시대로의 변화에 대한 근본적인 불안감은 우리가 가지고 있는 지혜와 기술로 충분히 극복할 수 있는 문제들인가? 2021년 유럽 홍수에서부터 22년 파키스탄의 폭우와 대홍수, 22년 겨울 북미의 한파 피해 그리고 23년 초에 일어난 튀르키예, 시리아 대지진 등의 전 세계적 기후의 변화와 자연재해는 안전에 대한 기본적인 의구심과 대책에 대해 고민하게 만들고 있다. 또한, 동과 서의 힘의 대결 양상으로 변화하고 있는 러시아 우크라이나 전쟁. 22년 9월 엘리자베스 2세 여왕의 타계는 실제로 변화하고 있는 세계정세, 경제적 변화가 개개인의 삶에 직접적 영향을 미치고 있으며, 그것에 대비하고자 하는 욕구를 일깨우고 있다. 변화에 대한 근본적인 불안함, 생존과 발전을 위해 우리가 취해야 하는 최선의 태도는 무엇인가에 대한 물음에서 “Flexibility”가 시작된다.

Are the series of disequilibrium we are faced with and the fundamental uncertainties in changes of the new era problems that we can overcome with the wisdom and technologies we possess? Also, the Russia-Ukraine war is changing to a confrontation between the Eastern and Western powers. The passing of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022 has directly influenced the changing global affairs and economy, and ultimately individual lives which have awakened our desire to be prepared for these influences. “Flexibility” starts from the fundamental uncertainty of changes and the question of what would be our best demeanor for survival and development.
