1982년 일본에서 태어나 오사카대학교를 졸업했다. 그는 가난부터 자살까지 사회의 어두운 면에 숨겨진 이야기를 파헤쳐왔다. 대표 작품으로 <happn>(2015), <새, 밤 그리고 그때>(2017), <The Suicide Boom>(2019) 등이 있으며 주로 심층적인 연구를 바탕으로 복잡한 네러티브 구조를 시각화시키는 데 주력해 왔다. 독립 큐레이터 고토 유미는 “일본의 현대 사회, 문화, 역사적 문제에 대한 시각적 서술을 세계에 제시하고 싶을 때 떠오르는 사진가 중 한 명”이라고 평가한다.

일본 독립 큐레이터 고토 유미(Goto Yumi)는 사진작가 치가 켄지를 “일본의 현대 사회, 문화, 역사적 문제에 대한 시각적 서술을 세계에 제시하고 싶을 때 떠오르는 사진가 중 한 명”이라고 평가한 바 있다. 이 책은 제8회 싱가폴 국제 사진 페스티벌(SIPF: Singapore International Photography Festival)의 Dummy Book 수상 대상 작품집으로 선정되어 이안북스에서 공동 출판하였다.
