1934년 경북 김천에서 태어나 1959년 동화 「노래하는 꽃동산」을 발표하여 문단에 나왔습니다. 동화집 「달을 먹는 아이」「우물 안 개구리」「풍자와 우화」 등 수많은 창작 동화와 전래 동화집을 출간했습니다. 한국아동문학인협회 회장을 지냈으며, 이주홍아동문학상·민속학술상·박홍근아동문학상 등을 받았습니다.

Born in Anyang, Korea(1942). Philippine Union College, Nursing Course(BSN) 1967. New York (R.N. 1970). Full-time Instructor at Seoul Sanitarium and Hospital, School of Nursing. (1967-1969). She is a member of the Asian Comparative Folklore Society and attended in the extensive field works in Japan, China, India, Indonesia, and the United States. She was also co-published a collection of Korean folktales (5 volumes in total) with Choi In-hak.
