The fourth industrial revolution based on the digital revolution demands great changes not only to individuals but also to economy, businesses, and society(Kim, 2018c). In the future, it is predicted that robot's ambient computing will be commercialized to collect information appropriate to needs of users(Schwab, 2016). People can also use built-in smartphones with devices such as bio-microchips to convey what we've been saying to our brains, and express unexposed thoughts or emotions to speakers through our brain waves(Schwab, 2016).
Nowadays, learners of 21st century can explore what they want anywhere through SNS in a digital age, and they can communicate with people from different cultural backgrounds to discuss and solve global issues in collaboration with them. It is necessary that learners improve multicultural literacy and skills, because they should develop critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration as well as basic skills in reading and writing to appropriately and effectively communicate with people around the world. This chapter will deal with the concept of multicultural literacy, tiers of multicultural literacy, and multicultural literacy for English Language Learners(ELLs) in curriculum.
