Epilogue

성인(聖人)이란 24시간 감사의 마음으로 지내는 사람들이며 모든 것이 감사하게 받아들여짐으로 이승의 좋고 나쁨에 대해 기뻐하거나 슬퍼할 일이 없다. 모든 작고 큰 일이 한 줌 모래 속에 있는 것 같으니 어느 곳에서 좋고 나쁜 것을 찾겠느냐? ... 혼자 마음고생으로 때울 수 있는 것이 가장 쉬운 것이다. 후에는 여러 사람의 마음고생까지 가져다 때울 수 있을 것이다. 모든 사람의 고민을 혼자 지고 갈 때가 되면 성인(聖人)이 되는 것이다. 아직은 내 문제만으로도 힘겨울 때가 있으니 단계에 도달했다고 볼 수가 없는 까닭이다.

네 자리가 어디에 있고, 네 시간이 어디에 따로 있는 것이 아니고 그 모든 것이 너의 선생이며 너의 수련시간인 것이다. 한 순간 한 순간의 일을 소홀히 하지 않으면 모든 곳이 다 수련이 되는 것이다. 한점 한 점조차 성의껏 처리해야 한다는 생각으로 수련에 임하다 보면 어느덧 큰 진전이 있게 되고 그건 과정의 연속에서 깨달음이 나오게 된다. 한 번에 큰 것을 얻으려 함보다 모래를 쌓는 마음이 오히려 큰 진전이 있으니 서두르지 말아라.
