해설

정일근에 대해

내 시는 한반도 남쪽 안에서 노는 작은 텃새에 불과하다. 한 번은 큰 새 독수리처럼 장천을 날고 싶다. 내 시는 내가 살아 있는 동안은 쉬지 않고 비행하겠지만 그 날갯짓을 어떤 철새에 비유할 수나 있을까 싶다. 날개가 돋는다면 히말라야 산맥을 유유히 날고 싶다. 천산산맥을 빠르게 날고 싶다.
My poetry is nothing but a small, local bird hanging around the southern half of the Korean peninsula. Someday I would like to fly into the vast sky, like a majestic eagle. My poetry will keep flying for the rest of my life, but I wonder if my poetry can even be compared to the wings of a migratory bird. If wings can sprout from my poems, I hope I will leisurely soar over the Himalayas and fly swiftly to the Tian Shan mountains in China.

시대와 권력으로부터 핍박받는 자에 대한 동병상련과 연민으로부터 시작된 그의 서정은, 사회적 약자와 자연의 생명체에 대한 연민을 거쳐 유·무정물과 시공간의 경계마저 뛰어넘어 ‘우주적 연민’으로까지 나아가고 있다.
Chung’s lyricism was born from compassion toward those who were suppressed during the political upheavals of the 1980s era, and it has matured into concern for socially disadvantaged people and nonhuman creatures, even proceeding into a universal compassion that reaches beyond the boundaries of creatures, objects and space/time.
