데이비드 A. 수자 (지은이)    정보 더보기
교육뇌과학(educational neuroscience) 분야의 국제적 컨설턴트이자 최신 뇌과학연구를 학습향상전략으로 번안해 제시하는 십여 권의 책을 저술한 저자이다. 이제까지 미국과 캐나다를 비롯, 유럽, 호주, 뉴질랜드, 아시아 전역에서 20만 명이 넘는 교육관계자들에게 강연을 해왔다. 수자 박사는 메사추세츠 주 브릿지워터주립대학에서 화학으로 학사 학위를, 하버드대학에서 과학교육 석사 학위를, 럿거스대학에서 박사 학위를 받았다. 이후 고등학교 과학교사로 근무하고, K-12 과학부장 및 뉴저지 지역 교육청 장학사로 활동하기도 했다. 현재 시튼홀대학교 겸임교수 겸 럿거스대학교 객원교수로 재직 중이다. 박사는 과학 도서를 편집하고 일류 학술지에 교직원전문성계발, 과학교육, 교육연구에 관한 수십 편의 논문을 게재했다. 가장 유명한 교육학 저서에는 『뇌는 어떻게 학습하는가(How the Brain Learns)』, 『장애아의 뇌는 어떻게 학습하는가(How the Special Needs Brain Learns)』, 『영재의 뇌는 어떻게 학습하는가(How the Gifted Brain Learns)』, 『How the Brain Learns to Read』, 『뇌를 알면 문제행동 해결이 보인다(How the Brain Influences Behavior)』, 미국독립출판인협회에서 2008년 최고의 직업능력계발서 중 한 권으로 선정한 『뇌는 수학을 어떻게 배우는가(How the Brain Learns Mathematics)』, 『뇌 친화적인 교육 리더(The Leadership Brain)』, 『Engaging the Rewired Brain』, 『마음 뇌 교육 - 21세기 교수 · 학습과학의 새 패러다임(Mind, Brain, and Education: Neuroscience Implications for the Classroom)』이 있다. 책은 프랑스어, 스페인어, 중국어, 아랍어, 한국어 등의 언어로도 소개되었다. 전미교사연수협회(NSDC) 회장을 역임했다. 모교인 브릿지워터주립대학에서 자랑스러운 동문상과 명예박사 학위, 필라델피아 그라츠칼리지에서 명예박사 학위를 받는 등 많은 영예를 수상했다. NBC <투데이>와 미국공영라디오(NPR)에 출연해 뇌과학 연구결과를 어떻게 학교현장에 적용할 것인지에 대해 발언하기도 했다. 현재 플로리다 남부에 살고 있다.

25년간의 해군사관학교 영어교수 재직 중 ‘영어 책 읽는 두뇌,’ ‘자녀의 두뇌를 이해한 영어 독서 지도법,’ ‘아메리칸 애드미럴십’ 등 15권의 저서와 번역서를 출간하였다. 현재 해군사관학교 명예교수로 후학들을 지도하고 있으며, 대한민국 영어교육의 틀을 바꾸기 위해 노력하고 있다.
