그때, 구름 속으로 보름달이 들어가고, 세상은 잠시 어두워졌다. 여자는 그냥 걸어갔는데 자전거가 사라지다니, 믿을 수가 없어 여기저기를 뒤지고 살펴보았다. 내가 헛것을 본 것일까? 구름 밖으로 보름달이 나오자 세상이 한순간에 밝아졌다. 그때, 자전거가 눈에 띄었다. 자세히 보니 새 자전거가 아니라 완전히 망가져 버린 자전거였다. 자전거 뒷바퀴는 살만 앙상했다. 잠시 넋을 놓고 자전거에다 멍한 눈길을 쏟아부었다. 지금쯤 여자도 해탈교를 건너 세상 속으로 들어갔을 터였다. 망가진 자전거를 들어 재활용품 분리수거장에다 던졌다. 와장창 소리를 내며 자전거가 거꾸로 처박혔다. 아까 그 여자가 운서든 운서가 아니든, 그건 이미 중요하지 않았다.

For a while I stared absentmindedly at the bicycle. By now, the woman must have been on the other side of Haetal Bridge, entering the world. I lifted the broken bicycle and threw it into the recycling station. With a loud clamor, the bicycle was wedged upside down in the heap of trash. Whether that woman was Unseo or not no longer mattered.
