영국에서 태어나 1980년부터 한국에 거주하고 있으며, 한국으로 귀화한 타이제 공동체 수도자이자 한국문학 번역가이다. 서강대학교 영문학과 명예교수를 지냈으며, 40여 년 동안 한국문학과 한국문화를 세계에 소개하는 데 헌신해 왔다. 고은, 서정주, 김광규, 김혜순 등 수많은 한국 작가들의 작품을 영어로 번역했으며, 한국 고전문학과 역사, 문화에 관한 저술과 편저도 다수 남겼다. 한국문학 번역에 기여한 공로를 인정받아 대한민국 은관문화훈장을 비롯한 여러 상을 수상했다. Compiled by An Sonjae (Brother Anthony of Taiz?) Born in the United Kingdom, An Sonjae has lived in Korea since 1980 and is a naturalized Korean citizen. He is a member of the Taiz? Community and a translator of Korean literature. He is Professor Emeritus of English Literature at Sogang University and has devoted more than forty years to introducing Korean literature and culture to readers around the world. He has translated into English the works of numerous Korean writers, including Ko Un, Seo Jeong-ju, Kim Kwang-kyu, and Kim Hyesoon, and has written and compiled many books on Korea's classical literature, history, and culture. In recognition of his contributions to the translation and international promotion of Korean literature, he has received numerous honors, including the Silver Crown Order of Cultural Merit from the Korean government.
