고려대학교 교육학과를 졸업하고 펜실베니아 주립대학교에서 HRD/OD 전공으로 박사학위를 받았다. 삼성카드 인력개발팀을 거쳐 KT&G 인재개발원과 인사혁신팀에서 근무하면서 13년간 HR 현장을 경험하였고 2012년부터 현재까지 한국기술교육대학교 테크노인력개발전문대학원의 인력개발 전공 교수로 재직하고 있다. 기업을 대상으로 인력개발 및 조직개발에 대한 강의와 컨설팅을 수행하면서 국가 직업능력개발 체계를 발전시키는 일에도 헌신하고 있다.

현재 동국대학교 교육학과 교수로 재직하며 인적자원개발론과 기업교육론을 강의하면서 학생처장의 보직을 겸하고 있다. 12대 한국기업교육학회 회장을 역임한 바 있다. 조직 내 인적자원의 성과향상에 관심이 많지만, 미래사회에서는 인간을 도구적 관점으로 보는 인적자원개발이 아닌, 목적과 의미 추구를 존중하는 인적가치개발로의 변화가 필요하다고 보고 있다. 인간 개개인이 지닌 독특한 탁월성이 조직 내에서 제대로 드러날 수 있도록 하는 교육훈련시스템의 혁신과 교육서비스디자인에서도 관심이 많다. 4차 산업혁명과 로봇의 시대를 맞이하여 미래를 고민하는 HRDer들어게 미약하나마 도움이 되기를 희망하며 이 책을 썼다.
