About the Author

쯔이는 방 안에서 하루 종일 TV를 보거나 음악을 들었다. 예전만큼 아이돌 그룹의 노래가 좋지 않았다. 드라마에 완전히 흥미를 잃어버렸다. 쯔이는 며느리도, 부인도, 형수도, 아무것도 아니었다. 형제는 그녀를 공유했다. 노모도 그 사실을 알고 있었다. 나무라기는커녕, 여전히 우애 좋은 형제로 남은 것을 다행으로 여겼다. 형제는 번갈아가며 시도 때도 없이 그녀를 탐했다. 축사에서 키우는 젖소만큼의 사랑과 배려도 쯔이는 받지 못했다. 쯔이는 모든 것을 포기했다. 그녀의 코리안드림은 거기까지였다. 방의 자물쇠를 풀고 쯔이를 꺼내준 것은 낮에도 일을 시키기 위해서였다. 형제들은 노모의 일이 줄어들게 된 것이 기뻤다. 효도하는 기분이 들었다.

In the room, Thuy would spend the whole day watching TV or listening to music. She didn’t care much for those young pop stars and their music any more. Her interest in soap operas was gone, as well.Thuy was not a daughter-in-law, not a wife, not a sister-in-law or anything at all. The brothers shared her. The aged mother was aware of this. She said nothing, though, relieved to see them still on good terms, as brothers. Taking turns, the brothers might turn their desire on her at any time. Thuy never received even the love or consideration given to the cows being raised out in the shed.Finally, Thuy gave up on everything. The dreams she had had of Korea ended there.When they did open the door, and Thuy was let out, it was only so they could also have Thuy do some work during the day. The brothers were happy then, as there would be less work for their aged mother. They felt themselves to be doing what was proper for sons.
